Does anyone know where I can find a Carne Asada burrito in Detroit like Roberto's in San Diego?

Taco Bell????

You need to go to Mexican town or Xochimilco's (near the Ambassador bridge. In this section of Detroit there are several authentic mexican restaurants. Here's the website for one of them www.mexicantownrestaurant.com
3 :
Xochimilco's in Mexicantown
4 :
I would try some of the smaller, less touristy places in Mexicantown, near the bridge. They'd be more apt to make you something special, than the two biggies, Xochimillco and El Zocalo. Try the ones without liquor - smaller places.

Come to Southwest Detroit, the taquieras and lunch trucks are every where, cheap prices too, all different kinds of meats.

Connecting flight problem! Help! SAN ->>LAX->>HK

Connecting flight problem! Help! SAN ->>LAX->>HK?
hello all, This is the first time I do connecting flights. My first trip will be from San diego to LAX by American airline. Second trip will be from LAX to hong kong by cathay pacific. I am just wondering do I have to claim my baggages at LAX and check in with the cathay pacific counter again? What do I have to do when I arrive in LAX in order to get to the international flight? thank you.

1 :
your baggage will be checked in to hkg at san ,,make sure you tell at the check in counter in san that your final destination is hkg via lax. at lax you will switch from american airlines to cathay pacific terminal make sure you have your baggage tag with you.cathay pacific departs from tom braddley international terminal.
2 :
When you check-in at SD ask if your bags will be checked through to Hong Kong. If not, yes, you will have to claim your bags at LAX and recheck them onto the Cathay flight. Tom Bradley Terminal is the International Terminal at LAX. There are buses you can hop, for free, to get between terminals. Just ask at both airports when you arrive. I always find airport staff to be quite helpful.
3 :
Yes, you will have to exit the secured area and go to American Airlines domestic baggage claim in Terminal 4. You will then have to take your baggage to the Tom Bradley International Terminal and check in with Cathay Pacific. You will want to have a minimum of 90 minutes, up to about 3 hours of time in LAX to make this connection because Cathay Pacific will close the check-in counters 40 minutes before takeoff. Cathay Pacific will have to check your passport and everything to get you a boarding pass, and then you would need to go back through TSA security and to the departure gate.
4 :
Hello, I did the same exact trip last year. It's fairly easy. 1. Upon arrival at LAX, you would need to go to baggage claim to claim your baggages. 2. You need to proceed to Tom Bradley International Terminal. 3. Go to stay in the line to get your baggages scan & they will escort you to your airline counter. You wont be allow to touch the those baggages that you want to check it. 4. Proceed to check in counter to check in your flight. 5. Go to your gate and enjoy your your trip. Smile....
5 :
I've done the same type of connecting flight with American and Cathay Pacific through LAX. American Airlines is a One World partner with Cathay and codeshares the Cathay Pacific flights to Hong Kong. You should be able to receive both boarding passes in San Diego as well as have your luggage forwarded through to HK, I did. You will have to exit the domestic terminal that American uses and go next door to the Tom Bradley International Terminal and go through an additional security screening, but you shouldn't have to check-in again and your baggage should be checked from San Diego through to Hong Kong. You can always call American or Cathay to confirm this since you're getting conflicting answers, but I sure didn't have to check in twice and my bags were forwarded through to HK.

San Diego to Las Vegas... flight or car

San Diego to Las Vegas... flight or car ?
It has been like 5 years since the last time I went to Las Vegas. In that ocasion I traveled by airplane with an ex-gf. This time i'm traveling with some friends... do you recommend to do it by airplane or by car ? Pros en cons ? Thank you.

Its a long trek by car I have done it I like driving and if I had time I would probably drive but the time is not just the driving time but you are knackered by the time you get to Vegas and to me if time is an issue fly and dont lose out on your vegas time ;-) Parking on the Strip casinos is free both garage and valet and you will allways get spaces.
2 :
Flight. Vegas is easy to get around. Car ride is long, usually bad traffic, parking can be more expensive than cabs and walking once you're there. Flights from San Diego to Vegas are inexpensive, comparibly, and when you use websites like travelocity, sidestep, expedia, etc.... you can usually book a package together and save a little bit more. ***EDIT*** I just used some random dates, but found flights as low as $140 round trip. You could EASILY spend that in gas and parking, depending on what you're driving. It's a 5 hour drive if you don't hit traffic jams. ***EDIT again!*** My apologies on the parking, I've only taken my own car once, and it was years ago and must be remembering wrong. Parking being considered, maybe it would be cheaper, dollar for dollar, to drive with friends. But my personal preference is to fly. I've been stuck on the 1-15 in traffic for 4-5 hours before, in summer heat, and it isn't fun! I used to pass through there all the time, and I hate that stretch from Barstow through Vegas.
3 :
I would just drive.. It's only about 5 hours, which is nothing with a group of friends. If you fly you're probably looking at 3-4 hours between driving to the airport, checking-in, going thru security, waiting to board, actually flying and the time spent arriving at the Vegas airport. It'll be cheaper to drive if you split the gas costs a few ways. And it's always nice to have a car if you want to go somewhere. If you plan on traveling up on a Friday and leaving on a Sunday or on a holiday weekend, it's probably better to fly. I-15 slows to a snails paces at those times. Edit: If plane tickets are $140, that would cover gas to & from Vegas if your car gets only 20mpg on the highway. Split 3 or 4 ways.. it's significantly cheaper to drive. There's no parking costs in Vegas.. unless you want to valet, which is technically free + tip. Parking in a garage is better, imo, since it's always faster to get your car and it's always free.
4 :
When traveling with several friends I would drive and split the fuel costs. Screw the airlines. Right now they are looking for a government handout again. Why is is our gas prices rose 50% and they raised their ticket prices over 100%.

A flight left Vandenburg AFB in san diego today w/o 18 passengers

A flight left Vandenburg AFB in san diego today w/o 18 passengers?
My grandfather was coming up to whidbey island in WA for christmas. My mom and I were prepared drive to pick him up. He drove in rain is really old guy. Now he won't make it for xmas unless we book him commerical. The pilot just took off without the families waiting. Yes, military flights are not as reliable as commerical, but still... WHy? What could be the reason basically and who to call (if necessary?) since wer'e pis''d

1 :
Wow, where to start... First of all, Vandenburg AFB is not in San Diego, it's near Lompoc. So, it sounds like he missed his flight. Looks like you already understand that military flights are not commercial flights. But you should also realize, whether military or commercial, planes do not just sit on the tarmac waiting for passengers to show up if one is late. Or even 18. Those planes take of at a certain time, whether they have all passengers with reservations or not. I don't know much about military protocols, but perhaps your grandfather could get on a standby flight. Or, as you have already figured out, he may just have to fly commercial. Or take the train. If you have any questions about why the flight took off, you should contact the officers at Vandenburg. I'm sure they will tell you pretty much what I have said.
2 :
Sounds like you grandfather was flying on "Space-A." What that means is that, if a military flight (usually a cargo plane) has space on it, then military and retirees can fly on it for free. However, if there is cargo, or mission-related passengers that need to ride, then the space-a passenger gets bumped off the flight. However, I have a suggestion. Vandenburg is probably not the best place to try to catch a space-a flight out of. I would probably try either March ARB in Riverside or Travis AFB out of Sacramento. Those 2 are both cargo bases, and consequently may have more space-a options. Also, trying to hop to Whidbey Island may be a little tricky, but your options may be better if he tries to take a space-a hop to nearby McChord AFB.

Hmmn. Some weekends Frontier has a $396 fare, changing in Denver. Everyone else is about $420 with a change, the only nonstops I could find were on American for $455. If you want to go this coming weekend, US Airways has an unusually cheap $368 fare via Phoenix.
2 :
try www.orbitz.com they compare prices for you on the spot so that you can see what is a better deal and what is a standard price for such a flight. you can also book through that website without booking fees so it's really helpful.
3 :
go to http://www.bookingbuddy.com or http://www.kyak.com to check (they both check multiple sites for you so you get the best price)
4 :
weekends in general, or this coming weekend? if the latter, you are ood-scray, as you don't have advance purchase. If for a month or two in advance....try Kayak. I am guessing you may find a deal on US Scare. Southwest is probably not going to be your best bet--I don't know why they advertise themselves as "low fare", they really aren't!

Flight following & restricted airspaces

Flight following & restricted airspaces?
I'm planning a flight from San Diego area to Las Vegas. I will be requesting flight following. I was wondering if I should plan a direct route through Bravo and restricted areas since I will be requesting flight following or should I plan to go around those airspaces?
Aircraft - 3 Answers

1 :
From a logical standpoint, it would be better to plan to go around and wind up getting cleared through, than to plan to go through and find out that you'll have to go around. Check your sectional to find out when and at which altitudes the areas in question are active, or "hot."
2 :
SoCal and Nevada are a nightmare of special use airspace... Great practice, but frustrating and time consuming to decode their use. Restricted areas have hours of operation posted on the sectional chart (Often weekends are "cold"), and if your flight is outside those hours, no worries... When the restricted areas are listed as "hot" you will have to plan to go around, and a query to ATC will determine if it is in use. If your airplane is equipped for flight in Class B airspace, and you're comfortable with the procedures, plan the flight through the airspace, and request your Class B clearance from the flight following TRACON when you check in with them...
3 :
Flight following is a workload-dependent VFR service. Never plan a flight expecting flight following to reduce your responsibility of navigation. For a VFR flight through Class Bravo airspace, I'd have two routes planed: one through it and one around it. You can never count on being cleared into Class Bravo, so it's always best to have a plan B in case you are denied entry. As for the restricted airspace, get a thorough preflight briefing. Plan around any active restricted airspace. You may not enter active restricted areas, no matter if you have flight following or not. It is up to you to avoid these areas, not rely on VFR ATC services. ATC is a good backup to your careful preflight planning, not a replacement for it.

Is my aviation and engineering plan in San Diego a good idea

Is my aviation and engineering plan in San Diego a good idea?
I'm looking to major in Systems Engineering at the University of San Diego and majoring in Professional Aeronautics at the nearby worldwide campus of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University at the same time. I'm also looking into taking flying lessons to become a commercial pilot at a flight school somewhere in San Diego. I've been looking around Google and other answers for some opinions for a good flight school in the area but I couldn't really find any good answer so I figured I'd ask with my own question. So basically, I'm looking for a good flight school in San Diego; I don't care about the price all I need is a quality school with quality training. Lastly, I'm wondering if the above mentioned scenario is a good idea. I could just go to ERAU in Daytona Beach, FL and study solely in aviation; nonetheless, I'm thinking it would be a better idea to major in something more flexible in a university focusing on many different fields of study just in case I can't do aviation for whatever reason in the future. I could also take advantage of the fact that ERAU has the worldwide program and major in an aviation related degree as well. (I should add that although Florida is a great state, I prefer California) I realize this may be a lot of work but I'm up for the challenge. I need opinions on how this would work for a 27 year old; I'm planning on starting this in January. Also, I'm looking into on-campus housing. Would a 27 year old fit in?

Fun and games are what you or your parents will purchase at ERAU. If you can not turn a post-secondary education into a job then you have squandered a lot of time and money. Money you can recover, time you can not. At 27 you are on the outer edge of ever qualifying to do much as a pilot. Get a degree in whatever you have an interest and aptitude. You can fly with about any educational background you can imagine. You do not need to know how to build or maintain any airplane you want to fly. All the aerodynamics you need will be taught as part of conventional ground school. Earn a degree in something that can support you and your wife and children (when that happens). The degrees that the pilots had in my squadrons were across the board, from aeronautical engineering to foreign languages to journalism to mechanical engineering. None of us wound up on the dole. Beware of the flight school hype. This is an elaborate process to separate you and your parents from a lot of money. I never met a pilot with a ERAU education. Just because they wear a uniform does not mean that they are any more professional than an CFI who operates out of a local flight school. The requirements are the same, no matter where the school is located or how fancy it is. ERAU has no inside track to any airline. There are almost no seats available now and those that are open are being filled mostly by former military pilots. The least qualified of which have more hours and infinitely better training than you could ever obtain in those pseudo-aviation colleges. Probably you do not have a ton of cash to squander, so invest your time and effort in training for an occupation that will put food on the table Every day there are military-trained pilots with better experience and qualifications than you will ever obtain at a civilian flight school who are competing with you for what few seats are available. I had my PPL when I graduated from a 4-year college and went straight into Navy flight school. I was appalled when I realized how little about flying I actually knew and that I was legally eligible to go kill myself and anyone else in my airplane or on the ground. My friend, dreaming of being an airline pilot is a wonderful thing. Don't squander your money and time.
2 :
You don't have to have an aviation degree to fly. Most airlines want a 4-year degree, but they don't care what kind of degree. In fact, it would be an excellent idea to diversify just in case something happens like you said. I think you would be better served by funneling money you would spend on the second degree into high quality flight training. According to what I've read, ATP has a location in San Diego and they offer student housing for the duration of your training. Additionally, it looks like American Flyers Inc. has a location there. I don't know the demographics of their students, but I don't imagine you'd have trouble fitting in as a 27 year old. -- Matthew Everett private pilot and aviation blogger

What time should I get to the airport if my flight is at 1PM and I'l dropping off a rental car

What time should I get to the airport if my flight is at 1PM and I'l dropping off a rental car.?
I have a 1PM flight out of San Diego. I'm dropping off a rental car. How much time should I alot for dropping off the car, getting to the terminal and checking in luggage? Also, has anyone ever used curbside check in? Is it any faster?
San Diego - 3 Answers

1 :
If it were me, I would be dropping the rental off at 11:00 and heading to the terminal, and yes curbside checkin is wonderful and fast!
2 :
It depends where you'll be dropping the car off, but to be on the safe side you should alot yourself at least 2 hours because traffic at the airport is a bit difficult. As for the curb sside check in, it is awsome and much faster. If i'm not mistaken, you can drop off your luggage hours before your flight so you don't have to carry it around with you everywhere you go.
3 :
Curbside checkin is alot faster for sure. One thing you may want to check first is to see if the car rental company is onsite at the airport or offsite and then you have to catch a shuttle back to the airport! You'll get an idea of the timing when you rent: by the amount of time it takes you to claim your luggage, get to the rental counter, complete your paperwork and drive away!

NYC commuting can be hellish in the evening when people are trying to get home. I would give myself at least 2 hours to be safe especially because there is no train that takes you directly to Laguardia. Also, with all the inconveniences, stops, and other incidents, you don't want to jeopardize missing your flight. You might wanna take the 2,3,4 or 5 uptown to 125th Street and catch the M60 bus to Laguardia.
2 :
No Direct subway to LGA. Better to take express bus from Port Authority or Grand Central -- and would leave no later than 4 PM if you want to be on the safe side. You could take the R or 7 Subway but then you have to take a bus to LGA....

Super Slick Mr.Danger Trick Be at Penn Station 34 th St & 7th Ave no later than 3:50 PM Take the Long Island Rail Road 1 stop to Woodside When you get to Penn follow signs for the LIRR Any train at or before 4:04 PM will cost $ 4.25 after will cost $ 5.75 Buy your ticket at the ticket counters The trains take 10 minutes to get to Woodside and run ever 10 minutes or so when you get to Woodside walk back in the direction you came in down the stairs and onto 61st St Hail a cab to LGA Actual distance is about 3.5-4 miles and it's local Streets all the way Figure about < 10 minutes and about $ 14.00 w/ tip. If you do it right you can get from Midtown to LGA in under 25 min at rush hour have fun

We need to fly to Los Angeles, but it's cheaper to go to San Diego with a connecting flight in LA.?
We purchased tickets to San Diego with a connecting flight in Los Angeles. For the return trip we will have to drive from Los Angeles which is where we will be for our vacation to San Diego only to fly back to Los Angeles for the connecting flight that takes us home. Anyone know what will happen if we just get off the plane in Los Angeles and not get back on? If we carry on our bags and at least do that for the 1st portion of the trip that will save us a lot of hassle. If necessary we will drive back to San Diego when it's time to come home. Will we run into problems with the airline if we do that? We saved several hundred dollars booking it this way. Thanks!!

Call the airline's customer service department and ask them.
2 :
I strongly advice not to do this. It's not unusual that you can find tickets cheaper if you connect to another destination rather than just booking to the connection point. It's the complex world of airline ticketing. When you fail to board the plane Los Angeles - San Diego, your return ticket will almost certainly be canceled.
3 :
If you miss any leg of a flight the airline will cancel all remaining flights you have booked. It's all there in the "fine print" in the terms and conditions or conditions of carriage. Sorry, but you can't do what you're suggesting, it will end up costing a lot more than the money you've already saved.

5:30 - 6 hours. only Hawaiian Airlines runs a single daily non-stop from San Diego to Honolulu. with it's small runway, San Diego cannot handle many fully loaded (gas) large planes. flying through LA basically adds on the 0:45 min flight between LA and SD, but you get a lot more options and probably $ savings.
2 :
According to FlightAware.com, the exact flight time is 5 hours and 20 minutes. The 11:50 am is local time in Hawaii. It is a 5 hour flight, and there is a 3 hour time difference. That's why the time between departure and arrival is 2 hours and 50 minutes. Have a great trip!

it depends on the season, and whether or not you are going one way or round trip.
2 :
Not really. The route is not covered by low cost operators. Only two competing companies that mostly fly turbprops with the rare regional jet covering the route. The average fare is usually double or triple that of flying San Diego to a major airport like San Fran, Oakland, Santa Anna, Phoenix, or Vegas. ---------- Southwest currently flies a 133 mile daily flight in Florida. They could take over the 125 mile flight from SAN to LAX and it would be much more efficient for the overtaxed runways in both airports and cheaper for the customers. However, the majors won't give up the little planes that shuttle back and forth at great expense simply because they want to offer San Diego passengers a connection to LAX so they can fly international. As a result it is the busiest route in the country (measured by planes per day). ====== If you want cheap, take the airport bus to the AMTRAK station. There are 11 trains per day.

Yes, the RIAA has people at the security checkpoints that scan any electronic device that can hold music files. NOT. No one is going to check your Ipod
2 :
No if they did that then it would take a whole lot longer to get to your destnashion.
3 :
No. I've been on over 15 international business trips. I've taken my ipod 95% of the time- they've never checked it before.
4 :
No, it is not likely that they will check it but they have the right to. I do know of one person who had their IPOD taken away when travelling by land from Canada to the USA. I do not know what the rules are in France but the laws in the USA will allow them to take it away. The thing is, they have to be able to prove they are illegal. Unless they can prove that you don't own a legal copy of each song, you should be fine. (the person I know had a movie that was not out on DVD on their ipod, it make it pretty easy for them to know it was illegal)

What's the cheapest way to get to San Diego from the UK/Ireland

What's the cheapest way to get to San Diego from the UK/Ireland?
I'm from Belfast and my friend and I are planning to go to San Diego for two weeks sometime in August. His girlfriend and her friends are over there for 3 months and invited us over for a holiday. However, the flights seem a little expensive! Can anyone advise me what the cheapest way to get there is? I'd imagine we'd have to fly out of Dublin or London. But is it cheaper to fly direct to somewhere in California, or get to New York and get an internal flight to CA? I've been told domestic flights are very cheap in the US. If it's the former, then is there anywhere in CA (or near San Diego) that would work out cheaper to fly to? (we're prepared to get a bus to San Diego). We've looked at direct flights from Dublin/London to San Diego and they're just too pricy. Can't justify paying that much money for a 2 week break. I'd appreciate any help - any advise with regards to airlines and so forth. Cash is tight so we're really looking for the best deal we can. Cheers.

I have discovered from personal and professional experience that depending on what the travel itinerary is, it can actually be cheaper to take a flight with 1 stop; in your case, Belfast, Ireland to San Diego, CA(Traveller and Owner of a Travel Agency). Kindly email me at: indysteve1563@yahoo.com, or reach me directly through Yahoo Messenger; I have some great news for you regarding your flight itinerary.
5 :
take a flight to new york or washington DC and fly domestic into San Diego...that is the best way to go.
6 :
In the cost structure of airfares, San Diego Lindbergh Field (SAN) is often considered kind of out-of-the-way. Flying into Los Angeles (LAX) could be an option. You would be transferring to a special bus http://www.lawa.org/flyAwayInfo2.cfm at the airport that'll take you to meet the Amtrak trains http://www.amtrakcalifornia.com/ at L.A.'s Union Station. The routing you want will be the Pacific Surfliner, and it runs several times a day.

I'm taking a flight from D.C. to San Diego. If I take a chicken sandwich to eat in the plane,?
do you think it will spoil? Basically, my flight is at 6 pm but i will go to the airport around 3pm. But i won't be eating the sandwich until i'm actually on the flight, which will be around 8 pm. Therefore, the chicken sandwich will be in my bag for 5 hours. Will it spoil? Thanks.

Just don't let it get warm. San Diego, yay! You should go to Kojak's on Mission Beach. It's got crazy food.
2 :
#1 - GROSS #2 - Since your flight is at 6pm, they should serve you on the plane. #3 - Will they even allow you to bring it on board?
3 :
no, but if there is some sauce on it, it may taste nasty cuz it will be warm.
4 :
Its fine, just dont put payo or things like that on it. Also, make sure that they allow you to take food with the new regulations.
5 :
Not if you wrap it good and put it in a cooler bag with either an ice pack or ice. With the new restrictions to the flights can you still carry on food? I've been hearing no drinks . . .
6 :
I think it would spoil and I am not sure that the airline would let you bring it on board anyway. But I think left in a bag for 5 hours it would be taking a risk eating it.
7 :
Assuming you'll even be allowed to bring the oh-so-dangerous chicken sandwich on board... It should be ok. Wrap it tightly and then double wrap it in a zip lock or something like that. Recommend leaving the mayo and any lettuce/tomator off - it might end up as one big sloppy mess if you don't. If you can - and you might not be able to - bring condiment packets with you.
8 :
no it wont i took a chicken sald sandwhichg and it wasok
9 :
Are you travelling as an un-accompanied baby or a brainless twit? If anyone has any luck since last week you will have your sandwich (spoiled or not) shoved down your face by an out of patience TSA "representative". Glad you're not sitting next to me honey buns.
10 :
Make sure you can bring food on the plane...you might want to call the carrier you're flying with. Then too, even if you can bring food, I don't think I'd take a chicken sandwich. It will taste weird being out of a cool refrigerator, not to mention the bad microbes and bacteria that will use the sandwich as a medium to grow on. Take something that's made for lugging around an airport like a bag of chips or fruit or something else.
11 :
most of all cases of food poisoning are from chicken (FACT) any meat product is best kept refrigerated, at room temperature cold meats very quickly spoil and are deemed unsafe to eat!!!

Well i suggest if you are going to fly on a plane to wear a diguise. Per say maybe a LONG BEARD and a towel around your head. And make sure to bring lots of fluids. and make sure to open up watches and such electronics and bring the opened electronics on the plane on your carry on with the wires exposed and such. And sing the song You Dropped The Bomb On Me outloud the entire plane ride
2 :
To make the flight a more pleasant experience, put all liquids in your check-in bag and not in your carry-on. There will be long lines, so be patient. And buy Dramamine - chewables. I've flown several times since 9/11. I have several friends that are airline pilots and flight attendants. It is safer now than ever to travel. Relax and have a safe flight.
3 :
Things have really settled down since the post 911 days. I mean as far as the overall feeling that is in the airport. I traveled alot in late 2001 and early 2002, and man was in uncomfortable and eerie at most airports. Things are better today. My best advice is to arive at the airport early. Beacuse lines have gotten longer since before 911. I would advise 2 hours. That way incase you do have issues, you will have ample time to correct them. Also remember that if you carry liquids in your carry-on, they need to be in 3 ounce bottles and be in a clear ziplock bag. Otherwise you will have to put them your checked luggage.
4 :
I flew in February from Newark to Las Vegas, and they seem to have their routine down a little better than before. Check out your airport website--it has the info so you know what you can bring and what you can't, wait times, etc. http://www.san.org/
5 :
For starters, some of the most important information you can have is about what you can and can't pack, and whether it can be carried on or checked. Here are a couple of links to TSA web pages that you should familiarize yourself with. The first is the TSA prohibited items list, the second is the TSA 3-1-1 liquid carry-on guidelines: http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm http://www.tsa.gov/311/index.shtm Make sure you get to the airport at least 2 hours before your scheduled flight (check what the airline has to say about arrival time as depending upon the size and normal crowd level of the airport, you may have to be there a little earlier even). At the security checkpoint you are required to remove your shoes and have them screened, so I would advise wearing shoes that are easy to remove and put on, as well as socks so you're not barefoot on the airport floor. If you carry on liquids (all under 3.4 oz. and placed in a 1-quart zip-top bag) the bag will have to be taken out of your carry-on so security personal can see it. All of the security measures can be a nuisance, but they're in place to protect us, and it's really not all that bad. It usually takes me around 5 minutes, if that, to get all the way through the security checkpoint. Depending on what all you're carrying on though, your stuff can become separated if it's in different bins, so just double check to make sure you have everything before leaving the security checkpoint.

I am flying to San Diego in a couple of weeks by myself, and have never navigated an airport on my own. help?
I really am quite scared i will get lost or miss my flight. I will be in the San Francisco airport, i still don't know which terminal or anything much about it at all......I have NEVER made my way through this airport with out somebody helping me...nor any airport for that matter.....does anybody have a detailed map of the airport...or some tips?
San Diego - 4 Answers

1 :
The first tip is to stop worrying. Remember, an airport is a roof over your head with a restrooms and restaurants. Even if you did miss your flight it's not like you would be out on the street. You would be safe, warm and fed. Putting that aside, airports have no end of information that allows people to navigate to where they want to be. There are also numerous information points where you can ask for help if you are stuck. Millions of foreign tourist pass through every major airport month on month, and the vast majority get to where they need to be despite their respective languages. You are more than capable of doing this, don't allow yourself to get so nervous about it. Make sure you know which terminal you are flying from, you should be able to find this by checking the flight schedule of the airport online, or by ringing the airline and asking which terminal they fly from for your chosen destination. Once you know the correct terminal then make sure you get to the airport in plenty of time, and use the departures screens to locate the correct check-in desk. Once you have checked in you can use the departures screens again to tell you when the flight is boarding and from which gate. It is always worth checking out the locations of the gates while you are waiting to board, so you have a headstart. You will honestly been fine. I crossed the world on my own in my mid teens plenty of times.
2 :
>"navigated an airport" I thought the way you were talking you were trying to fly the plane! San Diego is a small airport! >"some tips?" First of all, can you read? There are signs in the airport that provide directions. >"i will get lost or miss my flight" Well I guess you had better leave for the airport way in advance! Search the web for the San Diego Airport map of the layout!
3 :
It's really not that difficult, and remember that you can always ask the staff for help. Basically, there are 3 steps: 1. check in. You can check in at any counter belonging to that airline. If you aren't checking in luggage, you can check in at the self-service machine (or online the night before). They will give you a boarding pass. 2. go to security. Just follow the crowds. 3. find your gate. Your boarding pass will say which gate to go to, and there will be signs. Once again, don't hesitate to ask the staff for help if necessary. Good luck.

We need to fly to Los Angeles, but it's cheaper to go to San Diego with a connecting flight in LA.

Thanks!!
Air Travel - 3 Answers

1 :

New Flights to/from San Diego

New Flights to/from San Diego?
I was interested in seeing what new flights people would like San Diego International Airport to incorporate into their daily/nonstop flights; personally, I'd like to see more international flights (to Asia, Oceania, and Europe), along with regional flights to San Luis Obispo, Spokane, Huntsville, and others. Which do you want to see?
Air Travel - 1 Answers

I don't think San Diego has enough people flying for airlines to want to open up a route to Asia or Oceania. That might work when the Boeing 787 Dreamliner comes out. Also with LAX only about 2 hours drive away, people can just drive there since there are so many international flights out of LA. It would be nice if there were international flights to the places you mentioned. My guess would be more flights to different destinations in Mexico, Latin America or South America would be more likely.

Usually...you just have to do some searching. My favorite site is www.airfarewatchdog.com you can put in the city and find who has deals for it. Also, cheapair.com has been really useful to me as well. I would personally just drive it..but if that isn't an option, you can also try priceline.
3 :
4 :
It might be easier if you drive. LAX is a busy airport and the airlines that fly to San Diego out of LAX are United Express and American Eagle which both have lots of flights out of LAX. Therefore you have to get to the airport early to get through security.

Airtran currently have the cheapest non-stop flight at $309.20 for various days of travel. Best and cheapest day to depart is on a Tuesday and Wednesday. Now here is the interesting part.. if you book now and the price goes down 2-4 weeks before travel, call up Airtran and tell them " I booked my ticket when the price was $309.20; however, I looked today and the price is this price, can I be able to get the remainder amount of money refunded to me? They should then either refund you the money through the credit card, issue you a voucher either through mail or at the airport or bump you up to the next class available at little to no extra cost.
2 :
I am going to give you the only piece of advice that was given to me for finding cheap travel deals, and it works to this day... Compare as many travel websites as you can as often as you can. Since you have a few months, start searching today and search the flights every week until the month before you are going. If anything is unusually cheaper, book it on that date. I would definitely recommend checking out BookMe dot com. You can compare ALL the reputable travel sites from one location, and save tons of money. Good luck!

how do i sedate my child for a flight

how do i sedate my child for a flight?
my child is really hyper when it comes to flying...she is 17 months old, and we have a flight to san diego coming up soon, with 2 stops. i am trying to get her to sleep through a good portion of the flight...how do i do this without overdosing her?

Do NOT give your child medicine with the hopes of it making her sleep. This is not only cruel, but dangerous as well. Make sure to pack plenty of things to entertain your child, such as a few books, toys, a portable DVD player (or a laptop) with a few movies, and one or two comfort things such as a favorite blankie or stuffed animal. My children like to bring along their own coloring books, a Doodle Pad, their Leap Pads (with a few booklets), and scrap paper so that they can make their own drawings with and play games such as tic-tac-toe. My daughter used to like to bring along a doodle bear when she was younger so that she could draw on that as well, and my son likes to bring along some action figures to play with. I found that buying a Rose Art kit from target (about $5 for the small one and $10 for the large one) is great! It has crayons, markers, coloring books, coloring sheets, and stickers that they can color. You can also play games like pat-a-cake, or I-spy, and tell stories to your child as well. If you tell a story, try to make it an interactive one where your child has a part in it so she stays interested. This is also a good time to explain things that are happening or going to happen on the plane, and ask questions, such as what do you think the weather is going to be like when we land? etc. You might also consider going to the store and letting your child pick out her own carry on bag and a few inexpensive toys that will be used only once on the plane. Be sure to pick out a few toys without her seeing so that she has an extra surprise when she opens her carry on. Don't be afraid to get up and walk the aisles with your child. This will help to break up the length of the flight and let her stretch their muscles. New regulations allow you to take beverages (including water) from home as long as they are less than 3oz, -OR- beverages (including water) of any size that you have purchased from inside the security area onto planes. You can also bring a limited amount of baby food, just add water packets of food, cheerios, goldfish, animal crackers, dried fruit, etc. with you also. http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm#10 If I can be of any more help or assistance, please feel free to contact me.

Flight time zone from San Diego to Orlando. PLEASE URGENT!!!

Flight time zone from San Diego to Orlando. PLEASE URGENT!!!?
I just bought my gf a plane ticket from where she lives SD to come to Orlando. The confusing part about it its that of the Time Zones. According to Expedia the plane departs San Diego at 6:20AM That being said it leaves me wondering, Is it her time zone or mines? So, At which time zone the departure time is, HERS or Mines!?!?!?

The times on itineraries are always "local times", so her flight departs San Diego at 6:20am San Diego time, which would be at 9:20am Orlando time.
2 :
She'd leave LAX at 6:20 am her time, with is 9:20 am EST. All times of departures and arrivals are local times. I'm leaving Georgia on Saturday at 8:00 am, and arriving at LAX at 10:20, but it's a four hour flight. Hope it helped!!
3 :
It seem that you will fly with Continental Airlines CO 131 06.30a -11.43a via Houston then connecting with CO 786 to Orlando 01.30p - 04.55p. Total flying time is 5 hours 38 minutes, connection time 1 hour 47 minutes, total travel time 7 hours 25 minutes. All departure/arrival is Local Time.

Why can't the B737-800 make it from San Diego to NY city on Flight Simulator X

Why can't the B737-800 make it from San Diego to NY city on Flight Simulator X?
The distance between the two cities is like 2300 miles but the aircraft should have a range of 3150 miles. I usually end up needing to refuel in Nebraska or Colorado. What can I do to increase my range? What should my speed and altitude be?

Fly high as possible for less wind resistance. Set flaps to zero except for t/o and land. Make sure gear is up.
2 :
You have your aircraft improperly configured for the trip. For maximum range, you need to fly at high altitudes in clean configuration (no flaps, gear, or slats extended). For this particular route, try 35,000 feet or so, with a true airspeed of about 440 knots (260 knots indicated or Mach 0.76). You should see the autopilot maintaining your pitch attitude at about 2-3 degrees nose-up in cruise, which is the most fuel-efficient configuration for the aircraft. The real 737 has a flight management system that calculates the optimal configuration for range, but the default 737 in FSX is not equipped with a FMS. If you want a FMS like the real thing, consider getting PMDG's add-on 737 for FSX, which is about 100 times more realistic than the default 737 and includes a FMS that works like the real airplane. If you're running low on fuel just half-way to New York, you must be quite far from the optimal configuration for the trip. A 737 can easily get from SAN to JFK non-stop, even fully loaded. The most common routes are about 2198 nm, and the range for a 737-800 is about 3115 nm.
3 :
I have never use flight simulator, but I know aircraft. The range of an aircraft differs hugely from one route to another. The reason for this is mainly because not all airports are on the same altitude. Aircraft burn more fuel on take-offs at high altitude airports than ones at lower altitudes. Climatic conditions will also affect the economy of the aircraft just as the amount of payload. The range given for a particular aircraft by a manufacturer is therefor only a guideline.

It's a 15 minute short bus ride to the airport from the Santa Fe Depot. Take the #992 bus (Airport via Harbor Dr ) right to the terminal. Board at Broadway & Kettner, right in front of the train station. http://www.sdmts.com/

You should be able to find something decent since there is so much time left. I am going to give you the only piece of advice that was given to me for finding cheap travel deals, and it works to this day... Compare as many travel websites as you can as often as you can. Since you have a few months, start searching today and search the flights or hotels or whatever you need every week until the month before you are going. If anything is unusually cheaper, book it on that date. I would definitely recommend checking out the website BookMe. You can compare ALL the reputable travel sites from one location, and save tons of money. Good luck and check out the link below, and you will be all set.

I don't think so. You would have to fly to Minneapolis, Chicago or Detroit from San Diego & then a 2nd flight to Ottawa.
2 :
No.
3 :
Air Alaska should have something.
4 :
It doesn't look that way. You would have to go to either Denver or Chicago, which means you would have to change planes at least once
5 :
if u had to change flights choose minneapolis its a great airport
6 :
no you will have to make at least one stop. there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely give you the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it's very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online... otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.

how long is a flight from memphis to san diego?

Get on the Airlines site and check the schedule. There are too many factors to be able to quote an accurate time without knowing what flight you are on.
2 :
my guess is 4 hours.
3 :
Three to four hours.... straight through. Give or take?
4 :
If you fly from Memphis, TN to San Diego, CA, on a commercial airline, there might not be any direct flights.. instead, you might have to make one stopover, which adds to your overall travel time. Looking at orbitz, i found that taking Northwest Airlines from Memphis to San Diego, via Minneapolis took about 6.5 to 9 hours. Using America West to fly through Phoenix (more direct) takes 5.3 hours. Flying American Airlines through Dallas takes about 6 hours. Going through Denver or Houston takes about 6 hours. Remember that your return trip from San Diego to Memphis might take less time, because of better air currents and the rotation of the earth, or just better connections. now, if you are chartering a direct jet flight between memphis and san diego, expect it to take less than the times listed.
5 :
1 hour through each american time zone cept alska and hawaii so..... eastern ,central, mountain, western 4 hours
6 :
go to jet blue and find out
7 :
My guess is not quite four hours but about that timing. To fly from San Diego to North Carolina is 4 1/2

About 5 1/2 hours. Hopefully! .
2 :
Depends on your connections. If it is direct, around 5 -5.5 hours. If there are connections it could take all day. The best way to check is to search the airline schedules and check the box that says "Search direct flights only." This will limit your search to those flights. You can also save time by trying travelocity.com or expedia.com and they will show all flights minus Southwest, JetBlue and other discount airlines.
3 :
5ish hours depends on layovers etc! long flight though!

how often are flight to hawaii from San Diego or LA and can family members travel with while i'm on leave

how often are flight to hawaii from San Diego or LA and can family members travel with while i'm on leave?
i'm talking about military space A flights

Flights vary a lot. Call North Island and see what they have available. https://www.cnic.navy.mil/CNRSW/Programs/Operations/AirOperations/SpaceAFlights/index.htm Sometimes you have to go up to LA, or to Sacramento (Travis) in order to get to Hawaii. Lots of flights from Travis. Yes, your immediately family can travel Space A with you. http://www.geocities.com/kirchard/spacea.htm http://milvetstravel.net/pacific.html
2 :
Military on leave is the lowest priority of Space A hops for active duty members. And, their relatives have even lower priority. Check out this site for more info: http://www.militaryhops.com/index.htm Also, check out the militaryflights.com fare finder on this page. You can sometimes find fares that are about 50% of standard commercial fares.
3 :
For Space A flights usually there is several each day that fly out but they go to numerous places from Whidbey Island, WA to Elemendorf, AK to Travis AFB, CA to North Island, CA or farther back east. Flights to North Island vary sometimes there will be several and other times there will not be. There is no direct flights into LA itself, the closest would be Port Hueneme or Pt Mugu or occasionally March. Family members can fly with you if they are your dependents meaning spouse and children. If you are AD on leave then you are Cat 3 out of 6 categories. Now the problem will be when you are flying if you are talking about doing it in the summer it can be very difficult to get there and back if you have limited time off meaning only around 2 weeks. You need to have at least 5 days to travel there and 5 days back because flights can be canceled, too many people trying to fly, etc.... Sometimes commercial is better for less stress and time.
