What's the best flight/airline from San Diego to Sao Paulo (GRU) in economy?
I'm a United FF and they fly through LAX with Varig or ORD and IAD with UAL. I am not a Permier flyer so there is no guarantee I will get Economy Plus. Varig gets pretty bad reviews though. Anyone have a positive personal experience flying to GRU from the US in economy class? Seat pitch, movie screen in seat back, and service matter.

Of course you know that service out of SAN isn't an option and you will have to go to LAX or some other airport already. If you use your FF miles on UA/Skywest to go to LAX, you can connect to LAN Peru or Varig. Varig is the only airline with nonstop servie to Sao Paulo from Los Angeles. LAN Peru offers direct service (same plane service with one stop enroute). Only Varig is a member of your FF program though (if you care about the credit). RG 8837 LAX GRU 105P 545A+1 M11 0 LP 605 LAX GRU 1210P 830A+1 763 1 Go to http://www.airlinequality.com and read reviews of both airlines service.

There are no non-stops from San Diego to Sydney, Australia. You would have to go to either Los Angeles or San Francisco. The flight from Los Angeles would take about 14 1/2 hours. The best way to be more comfortable is to buy a better seat. Good on United would be to purchase an economy plus seat, which is an economy seat with first class leg room (only offered on United). Better on any airline would be a business class seat. These seats are similar to a first class seat on a domestic flight. Best (and most expensive) would be a first class seat. These seats fully recline.

You can fly on Air NZ from LA to Sydney. Air NZ's planes are very nice now (they were refurbished a couple of years ago). The flight stops is LAX-AKL-SYD and it takes a bit longer but the seats are infinitely more comfortable than Qantas.

I'd either want to endure the entire trip in one go--from LAX--or break it up a little more evenly, via Honolulu for example. So, you could take Hawaiian Airlines straight from San Diego to Honolulu (5h, 45m), then Honolulu straight to Sydney with Jetstar Airways (10h, 35m) or Hawaiian Airways (10h, 15m). So... 16h exactly with a nice leg stretch and lunch break at HNL Airport. Shortest duration otherwise from SAN is 17h, 5m all together SAN-LAX-SYD with American/Qantas (a code-shared flight). The first option has the added benefit of being cheaper, too ($417+$785=$1202, vs. $1630 with American/Qantas). A nonstop straight from LAX to SYD only would take 14h, 30m with American/Qantas.

Try the following link and sit back and relax

Welcome to The Corps, maggot. Drop and give me twenty!

You need to suck it up and drive on. If the military keeps getting kinder and gentler because people like you don't think they should be yelled at then we're all screwed. Deal with the situation you put yourself in and make the best out of it.
5 :
You signed up to be government property of your own free will. Stop crying and be a man or cry to the chaplin and go home to mommy.
6 :
you're in the army now, private gump
7 :
Sorry, but that's what you signed up for bro! They can start the yelling as soon as you sign the paper. They don't give a damn about your ego or how they make you look in front of a girl! That should be the last thing on your mind anyway.

Welcome to the Military. Just remember, that's what they do - it's a no crap sorta deal. From the moment you step off of that plane - you're theirs. lol. There is a reason for everything that they do in bootcamp. Even "screaming" at you from the moment you step off of the plane. That scenario can be comparable to being dropped off in a war zone - from the second you land in a war zone, your attention needs to be focused on the orders being given and on the dire situation around you. If you're not focused, if you don't listen, your dead. There's a reason behind everything that they do. But just remember, they're preparing you for military life - when they say jump, you jump. It's for your own good and some day it will save your butt. But your drill instructors go home to a family every night - they're just doing their job. You're there to focus on the military, not on the cute girl.
9 :
And here you are, on a computer... Must not be that rough
10 :
I don't. You entered boot camp on your own free will. Aren't you alreadly done with basic? And you're still whining and wanting pity??? You're going to be a real soldier soon. It's not fair- deal with it. Why would you even be worried about girls at a time like that? What? Did you think you WEREN'T in for a rude awakening???
11 :
Yeah, thats an out of line DI, if this story is true. You wait till your at the training site not in public. Anyone who knows the regulations has to agree, those who dont, well they vote me " thumbs down"
12 :
OOHRAH! Thats good trash man, you should have enjoyed those DI's while they had you.
13 :
what do you want a hug and kiss from them...you are in the military now.....suck it up and drive on!!!!
14 :
Juding from your question I can modestly say you're the worst fukcing marine ever.
15 :
Oh lock it up you guys. We all know he's right. They aren't supposed to shark attack till you are getting off the buses. Yeah doin it in public was a no-go. Dammit Marines pull the head out of the fourth point of contact. And Navy wife... your hubby never had anything like this happen to him. I know my family has had four generations of Navy. I went army, so I get ya kiddo, but they kept business at business. My DS (drill sergeants in the Army) were all professional. We knew why they were doing what they were doing, and learned to respond for a reason. He's not complaining that it happened he's asking if it was professional. I agree it wasn't.
16 :
That would suck!!! But you are a MARINE now and someday you will take so much PRIDE in that fact and look back and laugh. I'm sure that girl wasn't your future wife anyways!
17 :
If I believed this one I would agree fully since I live in San Diego and have two daughters and really don't want them having to hear that guff. But then again those guys look funny with their knuckles dragging on the ground. Nice try fella, just landed in Diego and already have access to email? I don't really think so. Better luck next time. By the way don't try the Army next time. Good luck to you.
18 :
you are such a flaming idiot, what really bothers me is your ramblings have truth to them which tells me you really were in the Marine Corps. its sad, let it go, you couldn't cut it, don't let it ruin your life.
19 :
And you call yourself a leatherneck? Are you traumatize or what? Listen up boot, the greeting is there for a reason, it has been in effect even since you wore diapers. Dont you have other important things to do, one of them to begin acting like a Marine.
20 :
Wa wa wa wa wa. Awww you were embarrassed. When should the enemy start THEIR crap? When you're ready and in place? So, you're in boot now? And on a computer? Sure. Or are you still whining about what happened BEFORE? I thought the U.S. Marines were MEN and TOUGH, not weenies who whine about being 'embarrassed.' (USN, retired 1965 - 85/in-country Viet Nam vet)
