Mountains on Flight Route From San Diego to Seattle?
Hi, A while ago I took a flight into San Francisco and we had to go over Mt. Shasta, and I really got uncomfortable. I'm looking to fly from San Diego to Seattle at some point in the future- does that include flying over any big mountains? Thanks!

Yes. You can use a thing called a map to see exactly which ones.

there are a lot of mountains and mountain ranges between that area. No big deal. The pilot will do everything possible to avoid hitting a mountain......that I can guarantee. It is done everyday all over the world. No need to worry.

The tallest mountain in the lower 48 states is Mt. Whitney, at about 14,500 feet, near the CA, NV border. Airplanes routinely cruise between 25,000 and 35,000 feet high. That puts a minimum of almost 2 miles between you and the top of the tallest mountain. Airplanes fly over mountain ranges thousands of times every day. Think about all of the flights from the west coast to anywhere from Denver on east. They all have to go over the Rocky Mountains. Happens all the time and nothing bad occurs. Personally, I think it is very interesting to fly over mountains. The perspective is unique and the features that you see are totally different than a map.

The most common route from San Diego flies over the water to Santa Catalina, then turns towards Los Angeles and continues north over low hills and mountains in SoCal. From there, it flies mostly over flat land until it gets about as far north as Lake Tahoe, where it flies over some low mountains again (9000 feet or so). It continues over that kind of terrain up past Crater Lake and stays over medium-sized mountains until it enters the Seattle area. All of these mountains are medium-sized, the highest along the route being around 9000 feet, which isn't very big. Since the airplane is typically flying at 34,000-38,000 feet on this route (a mile higher than Mount Everest), the mountains are far below. The route takes the airplane about 15 miles east of Mount Shasta, but it doesn't fly over the mountain (Mount Shasta is 14,000 feet high, so it's a big mountain, although still miles below the airplane). So you'd get a good view of Mount Shasta from a distance, but you wouldn't actually be flying close to it.

how long does it take to fly from kansas city to san diego?
if i left at 350 kansas city time what time would i arrive in san diego on a non stop flight san diego time?

Is there a lot of turbulence on the flight from San Diego to Rome,Italy and back
Is there a lot of turbulence on the flight from San Diego to Rome,Italy and back?
From San Diego to New York JFK airport and then on to Rome and on the way back from Rome to New York JFK to San Diego. Any help is greatly appreciated! Travel time is late May to late June if that helps.

Turbulance is not something that is consistant or predicted. It has to do with the air currents and weather you are flying around, to put it plainly. Usually when you transition from land to sea, there is some rough air because of the change in atmosphere. But unfortunately turbulance can be on any flihgt at any given time and you cant predict it.

All flights have some turbulence. Since you are flying overseas and for a longer than usual amount of time, you can expect there to be a bit more than what you would find on a 2 hour flight but it shouldn't be an abnormal amount. It all depends on the weather. Cliche but true. Try not to be nervous or get others flying with you anxious. Prepare yourself and you'll be fine. Enjoy the peanuts!

But, having said that,......airlines and pilots are very sensitive to the weather conditions through which they are going to travel. If there are weather condtions on the flight plan, they can request a re-routing around bad weather by the air traffic controllers, or jets just fly at a higher altitiude above the bad weather. They don't want turbulence to affect their planes any more than the passengers. If there are very serious weather disturbances, the airline and the pilots have the option of cancelling a flight, or postponing it, or if the plane is already on the route, they can elect to land in a different city, or on different runways at an airport that wont be affected by crosswinds, for example. My advice: Don't sweat it. No pilot will subject passengers to ANY turbulence if they can avoid it, and usually the modern big jets for a flight across the Atlantic have plenty of power to make the flight as smooth as it can be.

i live in san francisco and am trying to get to san diego tomorrow. there are two of us, and we want to spend about 300!!! any ideaS?

How long is a flight from San Diego California to Frankfurt Germany?
I'm gonna travel soon and was wondering how long the flight will be. I'm gonna be traveling with my pet dog... So I'm thinking I'll need to look for flights that have a lay-over for potty break. I'm nervous taking her too :-/ Thanks for your help! Kbye.
